Horry Georgetown Technical College

At Horry Georgetown Technical College, your training requirements are Job One.

Since its first technology classes began in 1966, Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) has developed hundreds of tailor-made training programs for new and expanding industries. Support for job creation to promote prosperity for local citizens and industry is HGTC’s primary mission. Support for innovative solutions to key community issues closely follows.

From automated manufacturing to welding, engineering technology to robotics, HGTC’s quick class start-up and thorough instruction precisely follow the training needs of employers. Here’s more information about HGTC’s success:

Horry Georgetown’s associate degree engineering technology students often compete beside and beat students in university bachelor degree programs during contests sponsored by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The same is true for HGTC’s golf and sports turf students, who consistently rank at and near the top of regional and national professional soil contests sponsored by the Golf Course Superintendents Association and other groups.

• And HGTC’s commitment to quality healthcare training is unparalleled. One of the most sophisticated dental training clinics in the nation, housed on HGTC’s Grand Strand Campus, serves military veterans, seniors and children without adequate resources to afford expensive dental care. HGTC cooperates with the Medical University of South Carolina to offer this special program.

• The physical therapy assistant program at HGTC ranks among the top ten nationally, and graduates of HGTC’s nursing programs often among the highest in the state on medical board exams.

• For employees interested in pursuing higher education, HGTC offers more than 90 associate degree programs. Most transfer to four-year colleges. Tuition at HGTC is among the lowest in the state, and the SC Education Lottery provides a tuition assistance program for resident high school graduates, saving thousands of dollars in tuition for children of the Waccamaw/Grand Strand Region.

• HGTC offers South Carolina’s only associate degree program in forestry and wildlife management. A variety of internships in this program often lead to job offers for new graduates.

• Home to the new $17 million International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach, HGTC chefs, who have worked from Houston to Switzerland, Tuscany to Thailand, are poised to change how Myrtle Beach eats. The Institute, now under construction, will provide training for chefs and catering services along South Carolina’s Hospitality Coast and beyond. This innovative training facility is a natural spin-off from HGTC’s award-winning culinary arts program.

More than 8,000 students benefit from HGTC associate degree and continuing education programs annually. HGTC is housed on three campuses in Horry and Georgetown Counties: Conway, Myrtle Beach and Georgetown. Hundreds of classes are also offered online.
